Case study

George’s Barber Room, Kentish Town

A traditional barber at 324 Kentish Town Road, with Est 1989 on the sign above the door. We built the shop’s website, which went live on 13 October 2026, and we work on how it shows up in local search. This page has the figures so far, including the ones that have not moved.

30

That is the figure for October 2026, in Google’s own report on the profile. The same report shows 0 for each of June, July, August and September.

Where the shop started

Already Busy On Google

People who knew George’s could already find it. From June to October, Google’s report shows 866 phone calls and 331 requests for directions from the profile, and 83% of the people who viewed it were on a phone.

The rating was 4.6 from 178 reviews on 10 October, three days before the website went live. That rating is the shop’s own work and we take no credit for it.

From June to September, the report shows no clicks through to a website at all.

The work

What We Did

  1. 1

A Website On The Shop’s Own Domain

georgesbarberroom.co.uk has the services, prices, opening hours, reviews and directions on one page. On a phone, a bar along the bottom of the screen shows the number to call.

  2. 2

    The Real Prices

The prices come from the shop’s two printed menus. They sit in one file that feeds the web pages and the printed price lists, so a price only has to be changed once.

  3. 3

A Page For The Products On The Shelf

The shop stocks Geo. F. Trumper products, and they have their own page on the site.

  4. 4

Google Set Up To Read The Site

We connected the site to Google Search Console and asked Google to index the pages. The website button on the Google profile now points at the new site.

  5. 5

    12 Blog Posts

They cover haircuts, beard care and products. Four are for people nearby, in Tufnell Park, Gospel Oak, Dartmouth Park and Camden Town, with walking times from each.

  6. 6

A Closer Aim At One Search

On 4 November we changed the homepage to go after “Kentish Town barber shop”, because of the Search Console figures further down this page.

From Google Search Console, 13 October to 3 November 2026. The site had 22 clicks from 551 appearances in search over those three weeks. These are averages over very few searches, so they are an early sign and no more than that.

Being straight about it

What Has Not Moved, And What We Don’t Know

  • Calls Have Not Moved

October’s 167 calls sit inside the range of the four months before, which ran from 154 to 196. We can’t say the website has brought in extra calls.

  • Directions Are Too Close To Call

There were 79 requests in October, against 77 in July and 75 in September, which is too small a gap to read anything into.

  • Most Searches Already Use The Shop’s Name

Google lists the search behind 300 of the 551 appearances, and 182 of those had George in them. So far the site mostly reaches people who were already looking for the shop.

  • One Search We Want Is A Long Way Down

The site averaged position 25 for “barber shop kentish town”, from just 7 appearances. That is why we changed the homepage on 4 November. It is too soon to say whether the change has worked, and we will add the figures here once there is enough data to read.

  • We Have Not Measured Map Rankings Yet

The figures above come from Search Console and the profile report. Neither one tells you where the shop sits on the map from street to street, so we have left map positions out.

  • We Have No Count Of New Customers

The shop takes walk-ins and phone calls, and we have no record of how many new customers came through search.
